Jazeman joins HTP Motorsport for Spa 24 Hours

Jazeman Jaafar will start his first 24-hour race next weekend, joining HTP Motorsport and racing one of the team’s three Mercedes SLS at the 2014 Spa 24 Hour race, sharing the car with two previous winners, Maximillan Buhk and Maximillan Gotz.

Jazeman tested with HTP Motorsport a few weeks back, sampling the Mercedes SLS for the first time and impressing the team with his pace on his first outing.  The PETRONAS Talent Development driver is looking forward to his 24 Hour race debut, saying, “Racing in a new discipline will be good experience for me and sharing a car with two race winners will be an advantage and a great opportunity for me to learn from seasoned professionals. I really enjoyed testing the car a couple of weeks back. It’s quite different than driving a single seater, as there’s much less downforce, but the grip levels are good and I was impressed with the torque of the SLS, now I’m keen to race.

“A 24 hour race event will bring new challenges for me,” adds Jazeman, “particularly racing in different weather conditions at different times of the day and night. It will also be the largest grid I’ll have been racing with, at around 60 cars, so this is another dimension for me, with the different classes and speed of cars, all against top manufacturers such Audi, Bentleys, Aston Martin, BMW, McLaren and many more.” HTP Motorsport boss, Norbert Bruckner, says of Jazeman racing with the team at Spa,"We have had Jazeman in mind, for a long time. Through his single seater career we have become aware of him. It was only natural for us to invite him to the official tests at Spa.  He convinced our engineers immediately by his enormous baseline speed.  We agreed that Jazeman would be a good choice for our team and he could get the job done, although this is certainly not an easy task ahead of him.” Jazeman’s team mates are confident that he will make a good team mate, with Maxi Götz saying "Jazeman did not need long time to settle in to our SLS ", and Maxi Buhk commenting, "Jaafar knows the track from various races in Formula 3 and Formula Renault 3.5 very well. This will be  a great race with him." Jazeman will travel to Spa, Belgium early next week with practice and qualifying on Thursday during the day and night, super pole on Friday evening and the race start at 16.30 local time on Saturday.
